Happy 5 years! I keep coming back to Granola because I know I'm going to read something thoughtful and lived out, not hot takes or pandering opinions. (The recipe recs are always spot-on too!) Thankful for the space you've created and the work you share.
I wrote a VERY LONG comment with my thoughts on the unsustainable pace pushing the “hot-take” machine but decided not to dump all of that here. However, I wanted to say that although I am a newer reader of yours, I appreciate the humane, thoughtful, and measured pieces you share. It kind of feels like getting a nice letter to think over and I like that a lot.
I have enjoyed and benefited from your writing for just a little while now, after hearing an interview you did on Born of Wonder podcast. I always seem to come away from your pieces thinking, "this is so true!" and that was definitely the case with this article! Thanks for all the effort you put into this space. I haven't got a copy of your book yet but am eager to read it.
It is wonderful! I pass by it every day on one of our bookshelves. It's sandwiched between a book of Wendell Berry essays and the book "Why Place Matters", which seems fitting.
This is one of the few times that I would favor the “macro over the micro”! - it really does make you wonder what the sense in all of the micro is for. This is a encouraging reminder to really dive deeper into the macro and know the “why” behind it to give ourselves a much more solid foundation/lens to interact with life better with
Congrats on 5 years! I don't comment often but appreciate your thoughtfulness and perspective as I have been wrestling with sense of place and belonging over the last several years. I've also been meaning to read your book!
Thank you for this much needed piece. I appreciate your thoughts on having civil conversations. Also appreciate recommended reading about AI and the classroom and of course, recommendations of Wendell's work. I have read his Sabbath Poems and look forward to reading something else by him.
Thank you for sharing your thought and your personal example, Gracy! I’ve followed you since I was getting daily Bright emails, and have followed a similar path out of the micro into the macro. I’m also inspired by your move to another state, your masters abroad with a family, and your cooking without being super health-obsessed. God bless!
Working as a student journalist, I definitely felt the pressure to scramble and find a story. Always having to say something was exhausting.
I appreciate what you mention about Montgomery's work. She's the first writer for me who illuminated this love of place, and the appreciation of everyday beauty. I reread one book of the series yearly because it brings to life the beauty I forget to look for in the mundane moments.

Happy 5 year anniversary! Your newsletter never fails to make me think. The length of it and the frequency is perfect.

Dear Gracy
Congratulations on five years writing Granola! I am wishing you lots more years of good reporting on various topics, including the recipes. Thank you.
Amazing that it's been five years! I remember reading you back in the mailchimp days when I was pregnant with my first child (so, about 5 years ago!)
