Invitation to a conversation with Jessica Hooten Wilson
A discussion of the good life next Monday at 12 p.m. (EST)
Dear readers,
I am really excited to host a Zoom discussion with Jessica Hooten Wilson next Monday at 12 p.m. EST. We will be talking about her new book, Learning the Good Life: Wisdom from the Great Hearts and Minds That Came Before. Her book is filled with the wisdom of past scholars, theologians, activists, and poets. Through their excerpted texts, readers are prompted to consider vocation, meaning, suffering, virtue, and wonder (among other topics)—and to learn the habits of “learning, thinking, and loving” that characterize the good life. Her book includes the writings of Athanasius, Wendell Berry, W.E.B. DuBois, Gerard Manley Hopkins, Simone Weil, Marilynne Robinson, and many others, and provides insightful introductions from a variety of professors for each excerpted text.
Our Monday discussion will include a 30-minute discussion, followed by 30 minutes of Q&A. Feel free to eat lunch with us, and/or to join in the discussion as you have time!
I would love to attend but will be working at that time. Will you be recording the discussion + Q&A and send it out? I had recently heard a podcast with Jessica Hooten Wilson and think it'll be a great conversation!
